HIE
Health Information Exchange — a regional network that moves records between providers.
An HIE (Health Information Exchange) is a regional or state-level service that lets providers query and share patient records — typically as CCD or C-CDA documents. If your EHR pulls outside records when you open a chart, an HIE is usually doing the work. HIEs are governed by their own data-sharing agreements layered on top of HIPAA.
